Print100 Business Cards

Just last week I ordered new business cards for Bravos Media and also some for this blog.  I have been having problems lately with OvernightPrints (the place I had been using) and I had heard about Print100 and their Spot UV Coating techniques and had been dying to try it out.

What better way than on my own cards?

I received them Tuesday, and all I have to say is - “WOW!”

They are much thinner cards than I am used to, but the quality far outweighs other companies I have tried.  For one, the colors seem more vivid, but smoother.  The Spot UV Coating (the designer providing the files - me - selects where the gloss will go on the card) really makes the cards POP.

But one of the most notable things I can say about these cards is that they are waterproof.

That’s right, that’s a big old puddle of water on my business card.  I soaked it in the bathroom sink before taking a picture.  And as you can see, the water is just collecting on top.

How can this be?  It actually is because there are thin layers of plastic on each side of the card.  After they print it, they apply a plastic coating.  I dissected a card (below) for your viewing pleasure (you guys are so lucky that I butcher my own business cards).

So now you can do what you always wanted to do, and extend your marketing to your target audience that lives under the ocean, without worrying about your business cards disintegrating into nothing or becoming illegible because of bleeding ink.

The plastic also makes the business cards difficult to tear up, so if you have any disgruntled customers, they won’t be able to take it out on your lovely cards.  Instead they will have to funnel that anger directly to you.  How lucky of you.

All thanks to Print100.

Bumblebees Day 2

Well, it looks like the mothballs worked.  The bees were all dead or lethargic.  The problem is, we put so many moth balls (2 boxes) in our house.  Upon further research this morning we discovered that yes, mothballs can be used to get rid of bees, and please put a handful in a sock and hang that near where you want the bees to stay away from.

So now the problem is getting rid of the toxicity of the mothball smell.  And if anyone talks about pulling a moth’s legs apart to smell their balls I will think lesser of you than I already do.

Anyway, we dumped all of the mothballs / bees on the floor (it just happened), picked up the mothballs, and pulled the boxes out of the ceiling.  We also opened up all the windows.  Hopefully it airs out a bit today.  Luckily it is nice out.

The sad part is, I talked to my grandmother today who said that she uses Bounce dryer sheets to keep bugs and other things out.  She has them all around the house and they keep spiders and ants and everything away.  So she suggested that perhaps they would keep bees away as well.  I looked it up, and indeed it is a recommended way to deter bees.

But I’m sure that the dryer sheets wouldn’t have had the same deadly effect that the mothballs had, and those bees needed to die.

I was looking at bee corpses while cleaning them up, and they had fuzzy collars.  So I am accurate in calling them bumblebees.

Today Joe and I were getting ready to leave to try to go out on the town and enjoy ourselves, when I walked into the kitchen only to find a swarm of bees.  There were bees in the light, bees on all the windows.  The buzzing was horribly loud.  I walked outside to see if they were getting in somewhere, and there is a hole on the second floor they are getting in.  They must then be flying through the walls and down to the kitchen.

My parents came up to assess the situation.  A friend of theirs gave them a tip that bees have an aversion to moth balls, so they stopped on their way and bought some.  Which we threw into the ceiling tiles and put in the hole.  Hopefully it helps, because now our house smells strongly like mothballs.  If this doesn’t work then we’ll have to call in an exterminator.

Yay.

My mom was having fun swatting all the bees she could, though, and Sheera was having fun eating all the ones that were writhing on the floor.

We went to see Indiana Jones last night, but I am not allowed to talk about it because my friend, who lives in China, cannot see it yet and loves Indiana Jones. So I am only allowed to say this:

We had so much fun watching it, and Joe wants to go see it again.

If you like Indiana Jones, you should definitely go watch it.  And find a good theater.  We found one with a huge screen and great sound system.  Theaters have been a little disappointing lately.  Especially with our maxed out home entertainment system.
